Creative Writing #3: Conflict

For today's blog post we were to create a short story using conflict. The characters could be made up or the story could be realistic.

My brother and I were always the arguing type of brother and sister, ever since we were little. Whenever I would attempt to get something done he would always interfere, or when I would try to talk he would interrupt me as I'm speaking.

One day as I was sitting in my room when I decided to try cleaning my closet, I heard stomping as if someone was sprinting really heavily up the stairs. It got louder and louder by the second, suddenly it sounded like it was just outside of my door. As I continued to clean my closet, when BAM! My door few wide open. My brother stomped in and yelled my name, "Chaylene!" I had to idea what was going on, it must had just been my regular brother on a daily bases. He started to bother me and annoy me, so I thought why can't I argue back... I yelled at him across the room and told him to get out. Although, he didn't move a budge, he sat there starring at me. I walked over to him and gave him a little push and said "would you just leave already, I've had enough." His response was "no" with a grin on his face as he started throwing my belongings around. I thought to myself why did I do that, I had a feeling he would push me back even harder. Two seconds later he pushed me onto my bed. I told him I was trying to clean my closet and having him in my room doesn't help, it's hard enough already. All he said was "I'm not leaving." I tried ignoring him and kept cleaning, but he continued to bug me and get in my way. I got up and left my room for a couple minutes, that was defiantly a bad idea. As I walked back in to him moving all my stuff around, taking things out of my closet and ruining things. I started to clean again as he began to call me names. I got fed up with him and threw a pen at him, he threw it back at me along with a brush. I whipped a pillow at his face, it turned into a pillow fight. It went on and on, eventually he stopped, he turned his back, I said “I win!” then all of the sudden he turned around in a flash, then hit me with the pillow one more time and ran down stairs. I went to chase after him but he locked himself in the bathroom. I had a feeling he wouldn’t come out for a while so I went back to my room and continued to clean my closet without being annoyed by my stupid brother. He finally left me alone, by surprise he never came back up to my room. In the end, everything was fine. It was just another argument like usual.

Creative Writing #2

For my blog today, we were to create a character, my character will be talking about her life in detail to explain some character traits and everything going on around her in her life.

Hi, my name is Katie I'm 19 years old and live in Calgary, Alberta and I'm attending University to become a nurse. In a few of my classes I've noticed this one guy named Liam and ever since we met I've been in love with him ever since. One day in July last year I was in a rush to get to work, I ran outside and got in my brand new car that my parents bought for me. As I was driving it ran out of gas, so I pulled over to the side of the road. I was just about to dial my older sister’s number when all of the sudden a car pulled up beside me. The guy got out and asked me what was wrong or if I had a problem and needed help. I realized it was Liam, I told him I was on my way to work and my car ran out of gas. So he offered me a ride because he was going towards Boston Pizza anyways, which is where I work as a waitress. After this day we've talked a lot. At university we became so much closer and till this day we've loved each other ever since. Not only am I in love with Liam but I also love animals! I have a Pomeranian and two Siamese cats that I always try to make time for to play with. My friends and family mean the world to me, my parents are always there for me when I need them and they have taught me well growing up in the country. My parents own a huge house with tons of land surrounding it. It was disappointing for me to move out having to get my own apartment in the city. I miss playing outside and going for adventures in the bush. I mean, I guess it's not that bad living in the city because I do have a fancy apartment and there is lots of space in it, I wouldn't have this exact apartment if it weren't for my parents. In the city there are so many malls and stores to go shopping at which is my absolute favourite thing to do. I could say I go shopping at least once a week with my friends. If you knew my life my friends do, you would see me as outgoing, happy, talkative, caring and at times I can be a little crazy! I'm seen as a very on the go type of person but when I'm at home I like to lounge around in sweats and hoodies all day. When I go out I usually wear skinny jeans or leggings, I guess I dress pretty casually. I like fancy tops and I absolutely love jewellery. Summer is my favourite time of year; this means I can wear flip flops and sandals! I have learnt that life has its ups and downs but you can always make everything work out. Now you know a little bit about me and my life.

Creative Writing Practice #1

My bedroom is a place where I can hangout with friends. The first thing I notice about my room is how clean it is, I rarely ever have clothes on the floor. Usually teenagers rooms are messy and their parents force them to clean it but they never do, on the other hand mine is neat and tidy so my parents never have to tell me to clean my room.

When I first take a step into my room I recognize my huge bed, covered in pillows and neatly made. I also see the brightness of my pink walls with a few posters laid out along them. I usually hear the sound of music playing in my room, this is the time when I can jam out! As I glance over at my bed I see a large pile of pillows to sit down and relax, enjoying the comfort of my bed, drowning in pillows and the feeling of softness on my hands. Beside my bed there is my desk, which usually reminds me that I have homework if I take a glance at it. Next to that is my dresser which has tons of perfume bottles and delicious smelling fragrances on it. My room always has a yummy vanilla air freshener scent to it and the smell of fresh laundry goodness. Now that the weather is beautiful and it's nice enough to have my window open, I sense the feel of wind blowing through my hair giving me a chill. I notice it whistling through my ears as the birds are chirping loudly. Along with that, when I gaze over at my window I notice my little neighbors running around in their backyard as my ears ring listening to them scream. I get a strong fresh smelling breeze of wind blowing through my window, I can almost taste it. My bedroom is a place to relax and hang around.

Literacy Blog #5 - MSND

Today I would like to discuss the connections between A Midsummer Night's Dream and the novel I am reading right now. I have recently started a new book, The Face on the Milk Carton. In A Mid Summer Night's Dream, they're planning a wedding. During this wedding, Quince's character is very bossy and seems to tell everyone what they need to do. While in my book, one of the characters, Janie she is very laid back and her mother is the one telling her what to do and she is all up on what is going on in her life. Although, her mother cares about her she seems to be worried about Janie all the time but she just wants to make sure everything is okay. Also, in A Mid Summer Night's Dream, I notice how Egeus is a very demanding, strict parent. In The Face on the Milk Carton Janie's mother is very similar to Egeus. She is also caring at the same time though. One second she will be yelling at Janie to do something, and the next she will be full of questions about Janie's life and whats going on around her. By this, she is caring and just wants to make sure her daughter is safe. Egeus yells at his daughter Hermia, telling her to do things she doesn't want to. She doesn't really have a choice but to listen to her father. While in my book, Janie's mother is very much alike. The connections between these two characters are pretty similar.

Spring Break Plans

In this blog post I will be talking about some plans I have made for spring break. I've noticed that most people go on a trip or a vacation, they have the chance to get out of this freezing cold weather, enjoy the great times and come back with a nice tan. Unfortunately I don't have plans to go on any kind of trip. I don't really know what I'm going to do, but I do know I will most likely be sleeping in quit often. I find spring break time to relax and just take a break from everything. Waking up for school is not all that fun, I'm not so much of a morning person. I plan on hanging out with friends, on Wednesday of spring break I have plans to go to the mall with Kyla and we also may see a movie later that day. We will be having a sleepover to celebrate her birthday. Honestly, this would be a ton of fun, even though I'd say it might get a little out of hand. I plan to visit family. I will probably go to my cabin in Ontario for a few days, we only usually go there in the summer or for celebrations/holidays because it is a long, 3 hour drive. The reason why we might be going there for this spring break is to celebrate my brothers birthday, but also to see family. So as you have read this blog, you can probably see how I don't have many big plans at all.

The purpose of this photo is to represent my cabin in Ontario, on Black Sturgeon Lake. Some of the things I really enjoy doing out there are, fishing, boating, swimming, having bonfires and sun tanning. This is probably where I would want to be most, more than anywhere. It's such a beautiful place full of nature, with entertainment at it finest! It's very relaxing and is a great place to have family get together's. This spring break we plan to go to my cabin and celebrate my brothers birthday. This is also a time to see family and catch up with them. I am usually at my cabin for almost the whole summer. There are tons of good times that I have experienced at this lake. I could say there are many memories that will never be forgotten. There are quit a few cabins around us, which is something that I like about my lake. Having friends and other people around make everything more fun. One thing I could say about my cabin is that it puts a smile on my face.

Literacy Blog # 3

In my book tweaked, I liked how the author explained in dept, what the characters feelings were. This reinforced the feeling of how Gordie felt about his brother Chase once he found out he was into drugs and all he had to do was get back to his dealers to keep in touch with the selling. This gives suspense of what's going to happen next. I also enjoy how the author comes right out and adds in something you're not expecting, it makes the books much more interesting. For example, "I screamed-a long heartfelt scream." At this point in the book, I wasn't expecting it to be this exciting, it was a dull scene and the author made it more intense to catch the readers attention. One other thing that I thought the author did a good job of was how throughout the whole book she wrote in Gordie's point of view. This gives a better understanding of Gordie's feelings which are noticeable from his reactions of the decisions that Chase makes.

Literacy Blog #2

There are not to many connections that I can make with my book but there are a few. One connection that I have made with my book Tweaked is that when Chase and his brother Gordie were little they were taught how to hunt and some great techniques of hunting. This relates to my life by the way I was taught by my dad, he taught me multiple hunting skills since I was a little girl. Chase and Gordie were taught many different aspects to hunting. These brothers were taught together, this brought them close when they were younger and as they got older they grew apart and went their own ways. They have both made many completely different decisions from each other. This is similar to my brother and I, we used to do everything together when we were little kids, and now we are basically opposites, we're nothing alike. Another connection I can make to my book is how Gordie's brother Chase is always out, he is rarely ever home so Gordie or his parents don't see much of him. It's a little weird how my brothers name is also Chase, I don't really see him to often either because he is in university now and unfortunately doesn't live with us anymore. These connections from my book have been made through my life and experiences, they are similar in my opinion.

Literacy Blog #1

Hi, my name is Chaylene Murray, this is my blog for Mr. Toms English class. I enjoy reading mystery books, they are my absolute favourite! I love music, I don't know what I would do without it. I'm a huge fan of Ed Sheeran. I find his lyrics very meaningful. I'm very athletic, I love being active. Volleyball is a passion of mine, it puts a smile on my face. My favourite place to be in the summer is at my cabin in Ontario! I have learned that no matter what, family always comes first...always. I love to laugh and see others happy, but I also know when to be serious. I'm shy at first, but once you get to know me I'm actually the complete opposite. I'm the type of person that can joke around with others. I hate it when people judge others, especially if they don't know them. Nobody's perfect, so why put others down if you have no clue what they're like, or who they are. It's like judging a book by its cover, you can't judge it until you read it. I strongly dislike fake people, be yourself. Be who you are, not who others are. This explains who I am and what makes me, me.

The book I am reading is called Tweaked by Katherine Holubitsky. This book is about a sixteen year old boy named Gordie Jessup and his eighteen year old brother Chase Jessup. Chase is a drug addict and has been hooked on crystal meth for two years. He has put his family in a terrible emotional and financial position. The book begins with Chase whacking a guy over the head with a bottle and putting the guy in the hospital in a coma. His parents pay bail, putting Gordie’s family in even more debt, but bringing Chase home on probation. Chase has debts of his own he has to pay off to his old dealers. Gordie tries to help, thinking this would be the last time Chase would ever see the dealers. Gordie gets two thousand dollars, all the money he has to pay off Chase’s debts. Gordie eventually gets tricked by Chase, and Chase only pays off five hundred dollars of his debt and escaped. Gordie returns home and finds out that Chase is now wanted for murder, Richard Cross, the guy Chase put in the hospital, is now dead. Chase causes much more trouble. Chase gets caught in the end and he ends up in the hospital and his parents find out he is brain dead, and his parents pull the plug.

Chase is eighteen years old. He is the older brother of sixteen year old Gordie Jessup. He is all into drugs and can't take his hands off of them. Drugs got the best of him, causing him to skip class and drop out of school. He has been addicted to crystal meth for two years. Chase has put his family in many bad positions through his drug problems.Chase is nothing like his brother, he gets into trouble a ton. From his drug addiction...he leaves his family living a tough life, always wondering and worried about him. He doesn't really care much about his family he steals and lies to them constantly to continue with his drug life. Chase is the type of teenage boy that is all about drugs and there is no way you can stop him no matter how hard you try. He doesn't exactly listen to what others say, he just wants to get back to his dealers.

This book doesn't take place in a specific location. It moves around a lot. They're at their house, in the car and appear in many different places. It doesn't just happen in one area. The situation happens throughout a long time period, for days, weeks and months. From what I've noticed of the setting and what's going on in this book, it reminds me of television shows such as intervention. This show is about people having problems with drugs and get help to step away from them. This show takes time for the addict to stop with their addiction of drugs. Their is also a show called Cops, which is also about people doing drugs. This show is of cops chasing or pulling over vehicles that are inspected for drugs and alcohol. I can see the connection between these two television shows and the book Tweaked. Although the book doesn't have one specific location for the setting, from the parts of where certain situations happen, these shows relate to kinda of the same type of thing.
